1Cause
The UVA/UVB/UVC distinction is due to a different wavelength range. UVC never reaches the earth's surface, it is entirely filtered by the atmosphere. UVB and UVA partially pass through the atmosphere depending on the concentration of nitrogen, oxygen, oxygen and ozone. The latter is the most influential on UVB filtration.
2Consequences
Ultraviolet rays disrupt the cell divisions of aquatic microorganisms, which has serious consequences for life at the poles.
Computer models predict that a 10% decrease in stratospheric ozone concentration could cause 300,000 more skin cancers, 4,500 melanomas and between 1.60 million and 1.75 million more cases of cataracts worldwide each year. . More UVB can also lead to a drop in immune defenses.
